Funded by the Mellon Foundation, Review, Appraisal, and Triage of Mail (RATOM) aimed to develop software that can assist archives with email analysis, appraisal, and selection in flexible workflows that support both human direction and automation at scale. The project team produced a command line toolset to report on email sources and apply NLP, and a web interface built on the toolset. The project explored the use of machine learning and NLP to help review, restrict, and provide access to archival email.
