Steve Murray, director of the Alabama Department of Archives and History and co-chair of CoSA’s Advocacy Committee, will recount strategies developed and lessons learned during a statewide advocacy effort on behalf of the archives and special-collections departments of the Birmingham Public Library in 2020. When pandemic-related budget shortfalls threatened to leave the repositories shuttered and unstaffed for an indefinite period, Alabama allies worked with EveryLibrary to develop a stakeholder-focused approach to messaging. A representative of SAA’s Committee on Public Policy will share an update on SAA’s work to equip the archival community for acute advocacy needs such as those in Birmingham.
